Dr. Krysten Blackshear with Ave360 will present

“Examining Substance Use and Recovery Support Practice Through Cultural Humility”

  • Define cultural humility and explain its importance in substance use treatment, with attention to how it supports trust, engagement, and equitable care for diverse populations.
  • Examine the impact of racism, bias, and systemic inequities on substance use prevention, assessment, treatment access, and recovery outcomes.
  • Identify practical anti-racist and DEI-informed strategies that substance use professionals can apply to create more inclusive, affirming, and effective services.

Dr. Krysten Blackshear is a Clinical Social Worker, educator, and servant leader with 11 years of experience across hospice, case management, skilled nursing facilities, clinical therapy, macro practice, and teaching. She earned her Master of Social Work from Stephen F. Austin State University and her Doctorate in Social Work from Capella University, building a career grounded in clinical excellence, community care, and a deep commitment to helping others.

Dr. Blackshear’s work is rooted in cultural humility, evidence-based practice, and a strong belief that she was born to walk alongside people through difficult seasons. She has served diverse populations, including adolescents, young adults, families, and older adults, and is known for creating a safe, compassionate space where people can heal, grow, and rediscover their strength.

In addition to her professional work, Dr. Blackshear is active in her church and enjoys developing curriculum for children’s ministry. Her passion for service extends beyond the workplace into every area of her life, reflecting her desire to pour fully into others. Guided by faith, purpose, and a heart for service, she strives to leave this world having given everything within her to give.
